Gastroscopy is a procedure which examines the inner lining of the oesophagus, stomach and first part of the small bowel. After patient is given a light anesthetic, a thin tube is passed through the mouth to the oesophagus and stomach. The inner lining is examined and samples are taken during the procedure. Colonoscopy is a test which examines the inner lining of the large bowel or colon. After patient is given a light anesthetic, a thin tube is passed through the anus to the colon. The inner lining is examined and samples are taken during the procedure. One of the most important reason for this procedure is to look for colon cancer and remove precancerous lesions called colonic polyps. The procedure can take up to 20 - 40 minute.
